Caring For Our Parents: Our Story

“Where do I begin?”This is a painful question for anyone whose loved one (s) has been affected by a terrible disease such as Alzheimers. My sister Rose has summarized only the beginning of our painful journey.

Within less than one year, our mom Arlene fell 8 times, made 8 emergency visits to the ER, stayed at 2 board and care facilities, 1 assisted facility and 1 nursing home. This was prior to an unsuccessful move to an apartment from their home of 22 years. Despite all of this, we were finally able to find a real home in a senior community that we can afford and be blessed with finding a loving and devoted caregiver, Christina, who has become part of our family.

As painful and tiring the journey has been, as many tears that my sister and I have shed, as many heartaches we have gone through, there is one thing that we can proudly say that we never have and never will give up on finding the “right solution” that is best for our parents who we love very much.

We want to make a difference and to help those who are faced with devastating diseases such as Alzheimers/Dementia. The key to this painful journey is to never give up, keep hope alive, never stop learning and searching for the answer that feels good to your heart and soul, because after all…in the end, you can say to yourself that you have done your best to help and care for the most imporant people in your life. The lesson, the experience and our life’s journey never stops…
