Care For Caregivers?
According to an article by The Times Beacon Record Online, Rep. Steve Israel,a congressman from NY (Dix Hills), wants to help caregivers with the passage of 2 new bills:
- 1st bill: Boosts funding from $166 million to $250 million to the National Family Caregiver Support Program. They provide financial aid, training and support to caregivers thorughout the nation. Within this bill is a $10 million campaign for long-term care information.
- 2nd bill: This would extend the tax benefits for dependent-care income tax credit. This would include caregivers whose parents live in places outside of the caregiver’s home.
Hopefully this legislation will pass through with flying colors, as we all know the daunting task of caring for parents, especially those with chronic illnesses is especially overwhelming.
