The problem with running a blog

Blogging isn’t for the faint of heart. You are revealing things about your life to the world, and if you are the type of person who wants to remain completely private, then it isn’t for you. I don’t write about the most intimate details of my life, but as I promised in this website I would share with other caregivers what I’m going through and what I’m thinking when the situation involves my parents. It’s one of the reasons why I started blogging in the first place. I may not be directly caregiving as much anymore, BUT….I still encounter the stress along with my sister of financial planning, medical issues, and dealing with any grievances our caregivers may have…I still have to take them to medical appointments, do their grocery shopping , medication pickup, legal and other issues.  We even have to make sure there is someone around when we have to go out of town on business because MOST of my family members on some end, are responsible for the care of our parents. But, my sister and I have become the main go-to siblings.

I wanted others to see things on a personal level, and not from a clinical, one-solution-fits-all perspective. One of the problems I’ve run into while documenting and providing my opinion on situations in our lives as they pertain to our parents, is that what I’ve said may have sparked controversy or raised questions. This is what a blog is and it is what it is. It’s an editorial, it’s an online diary, it’s anything you want it to be and it’s going to anger some, it’s going to inspire some. If people have a problem with me, or what I say then I welcome all opinions and comments on this site as long as people don’t resort to personal attacks.

So I suggest that if you are a caregiver thinking about starting your own blog, really think hard about what you are doing and if you think you can handle releasing your feelings and thoughts online. Everybody is reading what you think and say, and so I say a gain, blogging isn’t for the faint of heart so don’t do it if you aren’t up for the challenges.
