Rita Wilson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Caroline Aaron, Natasha Lyone and Carol Kane Join the Cast of a Special One Night Only Performance of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” in Long Beach. Tickets on sale Wednesday.
LOS ANGELES (August 26, 2010) – California First Lady Maria Shriver today announced The Women’s Conference’s inaugural A Night at the Theater event featuring a special one night only performance of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” on Sunday, October 24 at 9:00 p.m. at the Long Beach Convention Center’s Center Theater.
“Love, Loss, and What I Wore”is an intimate collection of stories written by Nora Ephron and Delia Ephron based on the book by Ilene Beckerman that draws on clothing and accessories to recall some of life’s most poignant moments. It has played in The Westside Theatre in New York, The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles, and the Panasonic Theatre in Toronto. The evening of vignettes are performed by a rotating cast of five actresses. The special Women’s Conference production of “Love, Loss, and What I Wore” will feature acclaimed actresses Rita Wilson, Tracee Ellis Ross, Caroline Aaron, Natasha Lyone and Carol Kane.
“I am thrilled to bring this performance to The Women’s Conference with such an extraordinary cast of actresses. These stories are both moving and funny, capturing the essence of what it means to be a woman,” said Shriver. “Theater and the arts are so important to my family, and I hope that this live theater experience encourages discussion and inspires in the same way that it has for me and my daughters.”
Tickets to A Night at the Theater go on sale to the general public on Wednesday, September 1 at 9:00 a.m. PDT at www.WomensConference.org. Ticket prices are $75 for Orchestra Level seats and $50 for Loge Level seats. Proceeds from A Night at the Theater will support The Women’s Conference WE Programs and the California Arts Council.
Registration is still open for Maria Shriver’s March on Alzheimer’s on Sunday, which will serve as the official kick off to The Women’s Conference 2010. On Sunday, October 24 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., more than 5,000 people will gather at the Rainbow Lagoon in Downtown Long Beach and march along the waterfront with Maria Shriver and celebrity co-chairs, including Rob Lowe, Leeza Gibbons, Jane Fonda, Natalie Maines, Soleil Moon Frye and others to raise funds for and awareness of Alzheimer’s disease. A minimum donation of $25 is required to sign-up for the march and all participants will be encouraged to raise additional funds to support the work of the Alzheimer’s Association, the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer care, support and research.
Due to popular demand, additional tickets have been released to The Grand Finale featuring the presentation of the prestigious Minerva Awards. The special ceremony will be hosted by Maria Shriver and will feature remarks by Mary J. Blige, poetry by Mary Oliver, and remarks by the five 2010 Minerva Award honorees Oprah Winfrey, The Honorable Sandra Day O’Connor, Oral Lee Brown, Sister Terry Dodge and Carolyn Blashek. The Minerva Awards ceremony will culminate with a special musical performance by Sarah McLachlan. A limited number of tickets are available for $50 at www.WomensConference.org.
The Women’s Conference’s Main Event on Tuesday, October 26 and its A Day of Health, Wellness and Transformation and Night at The Village on Monday, October 25 have sold out.
