What happens when the community spouse runs out of money, can’t make it on just social security and the other spouse is in a nursing home?

My parents have very little money. When one goes into a nursing home, which may or may not happen, if the other community spouse cannot make it (rent, food, utilities) on just social security, do they go on welfare

Spouse of a nursing home resident options to sale home?

My uncle has been in a nursing home for a few years…my aunt is still living in their home & wants to sell it & get a smaller place to live. With my uncle in the nursing home will she be able to do this or will she owe money to the nursing home for his care??
