When I read this, my first reaction was “WOW!”. First, banking through Iphone now patient care? Apple showcased a hospital in Houston, TX to demonstrate Iphone’s effectiveness as a healthcare tool.  Iphone fits in well with the technology infrastructure at Memorial Hermann. It supports the Microsoft Exchange Active Sync so that you can communicate with other doctors via email, downloading attatchments, coordinate meetings, etc.

Strong Security

The Iphone offers remote wipe and passcode protection so that any vital patient information is inaccessible to others.

Easy For Doctors and Lots of Applications

My Iphone is so easy to use that my 3 year-old knows how to operate it. Doctors don’t need to learn anything new, the Iphone is very intuitive. There hundreds of medical applications they can use for reference, therefore retreating to their offices and digging through books to find something is instead at their fingertips.

Medical Application Example

AirStrip OB is an application used by obstetricians allows them to monitor stages of labor even when they are not by the patient’s side.

“AirStrip OB is an absolutely indispensable app on iPhone,” Dr. Giannotti says. “It fundamentally changes the way I’m able to interact with labor and delivery. In a tenth of the time, without pulling a nurse away from what she’s doing, I get all the real-time data I need at the touch of a button.”

It’s most probable  that within the next couple of  years, video conferencing will be available through Iphone  to allow other doctors to interact and consult  a surgeon or resident in a hospital. All we can do is wait for the next Iphone update!
